Professor Gonzalez received his undergraduate degree in Computer Science in 1972 from ITESM, Monterrey, Mexico and his Ph.D. in 1975 from the University of Minnesota. He has been on the faculties of Ohio University, Pennsylvania State University, and the University of Texas at Dallas, and has spent sabbatical leave at the ITESM and the University of Utrecht (the Netherlands). Since 1984, he has been a Professor of Computer Science at the University of California at Santa Barbara. Professor Gonzalez's research contributions have been published in a wide range of conference proceedings and journals. He has edited numerous conference proceedings as well as the Handbook on Approximation Algorithms and Metaheuristics(2007 CRC Press). Dr. Gonzalez's current research interests are the design of efficient exact and approximation algorithms for multimessage multicasting in networks, scheduling, message routing, graph, and computational geometry problems.
