Dr. María Larrondo Petrie has over twenty years of experience in higher education. Presently she is Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, and Associate Dean for Academic and International Affairs for the College of Engineering at Florida Atlantic University, and is a member of the Graduate Faculty. Her scholarly interests are in the areas of software engineering, complex systems modeling, security, and computer graphics. She has been Principal Investigator in over $2.4M research grants funded by the National Science Foundation, NATO, IBM, the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Information Security Agency (DISA) and the South Florida Water Management District. Two PhD Dissertations and nine Master Theses have been completed under her guidance. She has 130 publications in refereed professional journals and international conferences that have received over 100 external citations. Her most prominent cited research is in the area of integrated formal specification techniques to assure constraints in complex systems, such as data authorization/security systems, wireless systems, and mission- or life-critical systems.
Over the years she has served in leadership positions in professional societies: President and Executive Council member of the Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society for the Computing and Information Disciplines, and Member of the Education Board of ACM SIGGRAPH. Currently she serves as Executive Vice President and as Vice President of Research of the Latin American and Caribbean Consortium of Engineering Institutions; and serves as Member-at-Large in the Board of the Directors of the MIND Division and Secretary/Treasurer of the International Division of the American Society for Engineering Education. She has been nominated for election to the Executive Committee of the newly founded International Federation of Engineering Education Societies.
