Biography of the Keynote Speaker

Innocent Kamwa is an IEEE Fellow who received a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Laval University, Québec, Canada in 1988. Since then, he has been with the Hydro-Québec Research Institute, where he is at present a Principal Researcher in bulk system dynamic performance. While working on projects urgently needed to optimize power flows on the existing stressed grid, he is leading a highly motivated team through a new strategic innovation project aimed at developing advanced operation system schemes for long term power grids. Since 1990, he has also held an Associate Professor position in Electrical Engineering at Laval University. He has been active for 15 years on the IEEE Electric Machinery Committee where as a working group Chair and Secretary, he contributed to standards 115 and 1110. A member of IEE, CIGRÉ, and a registered professional engineer, Dr. Kamwa was a recipient of the 1998 and 2003 IEEE PES Prize Paper Awards and is currently serving on the IEEE System Dynamic Performance Committee and IEEE Standards Association. In 2004, he was recognized by the MIT Technology Review as one of five word-class researchers on Power Grid Control.
