Biography of the Keynote Speaker

Wilson V. Ruggiero was born in São Paulo, Brazil (1948); obtained his degree in Electrical Engineering (1972) and Master of Science in Electronic Engineer (1975) from Escola Politécnica University of São Paulo, and a PhD in Computer Science (1978) from University of California, Los Angeles. He concluded his “Livre Docência” (2002) from Escola Politécnica University of São Paulo. He is an Associate Professor in the Computer Engineering Department. His main research areas are: Computer Networks and Distributed Systems, Information Security, E-learning, and Performance Evaluation. During the last years he received the following awards: (1998) Brazilian Internet Personality from Internet World Magazine; (1999) Brazilian Personality in Computer and Communication Networks from BRISA - Brazilian Society for Open Systems; (2001) Brazilian Personality in Computer Network Technology from São Paulo State Engineering Association; (2001) Décio Leal de Zagotis AWARD from Escola Politécnica University of São Paulo. Dr. Ruggiero is presently president of SCOPUS Tecnologia being also responsible for the research and development of new products in information, network communication, and security technology. He has more than 100 scientific and technology papers in peer reviewed journals and international conference proceedings. His current research interests includes information security, e-learning tools, optical network architecture, high fidelity human interaction and collaboration over high speed networks, creation of integrated real and virtual environments (Web Labs), and performance evaluation of computer and communication systems.
