Biography of the Keynote Speaker
is Professor in the DĀ“epartement d'Informatique et de Recherche Operationnelle, at the Universite de Montreal, Canada. He holds the Canada Research Chair in Stochastic Simulation and Optimization. He received his Ph.D. in operations research from the Universite de Montreal in 1983. He was at Universite Laval (Quebec) from 1982 to 1990, before returning to Montreal. His main research interests are random number generation, quasi-Monte Carlo methods, efficiency improvement via variance reduction, sensitivity analysis and optimization of discrete-event stochastic systems, and discrete-event simulation in general. He is currently Associate/Area Editor for ACM Transactions on Modeling and Computer Simulation, ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software, and Statistical Computing. He has published over 165 scientific articles in various areas such as simulation, optimization, statistics, computer science, applied mathematics, computational finance, economics, and industrial engineering. He obtained the prestigious E.W.R. Steacie fellowship from NSERC in 1995-97, a Killam fellowship in 2001-03, the Urgel-Archambault Prize from ACFAS in 2002, and he was elected INFORMS Fellow in 2006.
