Biography of the Keynote Speaker
Elfriede Simon is project manager at Siemens AG, Corporate Research Technology, in the department of Sensor Systems. Key aspects of her activities are chemical and biological sensor technologies and sensor systems for medical and security applications as well as building technology. After her diploma in chemistry at the University of Munich in 1993, she obtained the PhD at the Technical University of Munich in the field of optical immunosensors for xenobiotics in water and soil 1998. As a research scientist she joined the Corporate Technology of Siemens located in Munich as part of the gas sensor research group1998. She is engaged in the development of innovative sensor technologies, particularly in gas sensors based on field effect transistors and the development of new receptor materials. In 2004 she extended her activities to the field of biosensors, especially electrochemical sensor technologies and cell based sensors.
