Biography of the Keynote Speaker
is the Dean and Professor of the School of Computing and Information Sciences at Florida International University (FIU), the state university of Florida in Miami, a position he has held since 2002. He is an accomplished leader in computing research and innovation, and has led many large scale multidisciplinary research and education initiatives. He founded and directed three research centers, including the Center for Advanced Distributed System Engineering, the NSF Center of Emerging Technologies for Advanced Information Processing and High Confidence Systems, and the IBM Center for Autonomic and Grid Computing at FIU. He also co-founded the Latin American Grid (LA Grid) Consortium with IBM, an innovative international partnership for computing research and workforce development, with 12 member institutions in the US, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Spain and Argentina, as well as the NSF sponsored Partnership for International Research and Education (PIRE) Consortium with leading universities and research centers spanning China, India, Japan, Spain, Argentina and Mexico.
