Dr. Al-Dabbagh graduated from Moscow Power Engineering University in 1968 with an Honours Degree specialising in Power System Protection and Control. He completed his MSc and PhD in 1973 and 1975 from the University of Manchester (UMIST), Manchester, UK. His Masters was on the Dynamics of AC/DC interconnected Power Systems and his PhD on Dynamic Simulation of Power System protection. He worked for GEC Measurement, Stafford, UK and the State Electricity Commission of Victoria as a Design Engineer. He started his academic career with Baghdad University in 1976 and worked there until 1982. He migrated to Australia in 1983 and is now an Associate Professor at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University in Melbourne. He was leading Power Engineering at RMIT University for over 13 years until March 2005. From April 2005 – current, he is working for Hydro Tasmania Consulting as a Specialist Consultant in Melbourne Office. He worked as a Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical and Communication Engineering at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology, Papua New Guinea, for 3 years. He is known for his research in power systems where he has over 185 publications. His interests are in Power Systems Dynamics, Protection of Power Systems, Renewable Energy Systems, and ANN applications in Power Systems. He has chaired and co-chaired national and international conferences and his work is published in the US, UK, Japan, Spain, France, Russia, Australia, Singapore, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Germany, Egypt, Korea, China, and Greece.
